The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in Arizona sentenced a man to 42 years in prison.
Gerardo Vázquez Álvarez was found guilty of shooting and killing the mother of his children.
The incident occurred at a fast-food restaurant.
The victim, María Ledesma Ramírez, worked at the Burger King on 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road.
Gerardo Vázquez Álvarez Arrived on April 12 and Opened Fire

Álvarez arrived at the restaurant on the night of Friday, April 12.
He ordered food and waited for the victim to approach the counter.
At that moment, he shot her with a 40-millimeter firearm.
Ledesma Ramírez, 25, was shot at least five times.
A teenage coworker was also injured in the attack.
Fortunately, the young woman recovered from her injuries.

“It was a domestic violence situation,” said Vanessa Ceja from the Attorney’s Office.
Álvarez had learned that María Ledesma Ramírez had a new partner.
Attack Caught on Security Cameras

The attack was recorded by security cameras.
The footage shows the suspect approaching the counter and opening fire.
He then returned to shoot again before fleeing.
On the day of the tragedy, the victim had warned her ex-boyfriend that he would see their children «over her dead body.»
Gerardo Vázquez Álvarez was arrested that morning on Highway 347 heading towards Maricopa.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office records more than 100 fatalities a year.
