The latest update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports sustained winds of 140 km/h.

The storm is currently located 35 miles from Grand Turk, moving west at 17 km/h.

This could wreak havoc on the affected coastal areas.

Hurricane warnings have been issued for the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.

Cuban provinces such as Guantánamo, Holguín, and Las Tunas are also under alert.

Authorities warn that hurricane conditions are expected in these areas by tonight, and in Cuba, starting Sunday night.

In addition to dangerous winds, the NHC has also warned of a life-threatening storm surge that could cause significant coastal flooding in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Water levels could rise between 2 and 4 feet.

Heavy rainfall of up to 8 inches is also forecast for Cuba, which could worsen the situation.

The impact of Oscar marks the end of a temporary lull in the hurricane season, reminding residents of the region to remain prepared for the unexpected.

As a northeastward turn is forecast for Monday, authorities are urging residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions to protect their lives and property.
