Plane Crashes While Attempting to Land at Airport Runway

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation following an aviation accident that occurred on Monday, April 28, in Lake County.
The incident took place at approximately 1:34 p.m., when the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) was dispatched to the scene to respond to the emergency.
According to initial reports, a single-engine aircraft was attempting to land on Runway 35 at the Lake County Airport when, for reasons still unknown, it veered off its intended path.
The plane came to a stop on the opposite side of a ditch located east of the runway, complicating rescue efforts.

Fortunately, both occupants of the aircraft survived the crash.
They were transported to Lake District Hospital by Lake Health District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to receive treatment for minor injuries.

The LCSO, in coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, acted quickly to secure the Lake County area after the plane crash and facilitate access for emergency responders.
Members of the Oregon State Police were also present at the scene, assisting with traffic control and the preliminary investigation of the incident.
FAA and NTSB Investigation
Additionally, the Thomas Creek–Westside Rural Fire Protection District and the Lakeview Fire Department provided support during rescue operations and ensured safety at the crash site.
Personnel from the Lake County Airport participated in coordinating the response, helping manage resources and assess the condition of the runway.
The FAA and NTSB continue working to determine the cause of the accident and to help prevent similar incidents in the region.
Although the injuries sustained by the occupants were described as minor, authorities are still investigating the details of the crash to determine whether mechanical failure, human error, or weather conditions played a role in the aircraft’s deviation.
