Motorcyclist dies after crashing into a plane on the runway

When a commercial plane has an accident it makes news around the world because of its magnitude. Recently there was an incident that, although it is very difficult to believe, did happen and the it’s also going around the globe.

Last Friday, a plane belonging to Portuguese airline TAP collided with a motorcycle that was crossing the runway as it was landing at the Guinea-Conakry airport. The cyclist was killed as he was attempting to cross the runway.

An incredible incident!

While a TAP airline flight was landing, a man jumped the fence on his motorcycle and tried to ‘beat’ the plane. Unfortunately the motorcycle was not fast enough as it hit a part of the plane and the driver was killed.

A 320NEO belonging the Portuguese airline TAP hit the motorcycle that was crossing runway 06-24 of the Conakry International Airport in Guinea with one of its engines. Unfortunately the occupant of the motorcycle lost his life.

The airline responds

«It was not possible to avoid the accident,» said the airline, which reported that the passengers and crew «are all fine.» They released the statement after an uproar over the incident that occurred last Friday night in Guinea.

TAP, which sent its condolences to the victim’s family, is cooperating with local authorities «to clarify the circumstances» that led to the accident. Flight TP 1492 left Lisbon at 8:14 p.m. (9:14 p.m. Spanish peninsular time), a little over an hour behind schedule, and landed in Conakry 4 hours and 20 minutes later.

Why did the man jump the fence?

The local authorities don’t know exactly why the motorcycle driver crossed the runway while the aircraft was landing. This incident is one of those that is hard to believe because no one would imagine anyone doing that.

It has been investigated whether the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol since they say that no one in their right mind would try to beat a plane while it is landing. However, apparently a man from Guinea thought he could do it.

The plane was damaged

According to Debate, one of the plane’s engines was damaged by the impact but no crew members were injured. As already mentioned, the only person injured was the motorcyclist since he died in the crash.
