Less than an hour before the first shooting, officers patrolling North State Street noticed a large group gathered near the Chicago Theatre.
As they monitored the area, they heard multiple gunshots, prompting the crowd to scatter in different directions seeking safety.
Officers rushed toward the scene and found seven people with gunshot wounds requiring urgent medical attention.
The panic intensified as families and visitors taking part in downtown holiday activities fled the area.
Shooting in Chicago Occurs During Festivities
Friday night coincided with the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, one of the most attended holiday events in downtown Chicago.
The presence of thousands of people complicated the emergency response, as crowded zones had to be cleared to reach and treat the wounded.
Chicago Fire Department teams provided first aid and coordinated ambulance transport to nearby hospitals.
Authorities reported that six of the seven people injured in the second shooting are in good condition, while one remains stable.
Investigation Continues as Police Search for Suspects

Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in either attack, increasing concern among residents and visitors in the area.
Detectives are reviewing security camera footage, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing additional evidence to identify those responsible for the Chicago holiday shooting.
Authorities have boosted patrols at key downtown locations amid concerns about potential further incidents during the December celebrations.
The case remains active as the city works to regain calm after a night marked by violence in a space traditionally dedicated to family entertainment.
