The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, stated that the organization is monitoring the security situation in Mexico, but reiterated his full confidence in the country as a host of the 2026 World Cup.
Infantino expressed support for President Claudia Sheinbaum and Mexican authorities following the violent incidents reported Sunday in Jalisco and other regions of the country.
“We have total confidence in Mexico, in its president and in the authorities. We are convinced that everything will be resolved in the best possible way,” he said.
“The World Cup Will Be an Incredible Celebration”

The FIFA leader emphasized that all countries face complex situations, but noted that institutions are in place to ensure order.
“Mexico is a great country, a football country. As in all countries, things happen… The World Cup will be an incredible celebration.”
His remarks come amid growing discussion about Mexico World Cup 2026 security, particularly after recent violent events.
Upcoming Commitments

Infantino mentioned that in the coming weeks there will be playoff matches and the reopening of the Estadio Azteca, a key venue for the 2026 World Cup.
The statements follow violent incidents that occurred after a National Guard operation against the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a situation that has sparked questions regarding security preparations for the tournament.
As preparations continue, attention remains focused on how authorities will address safety concerns to ensure Mexico World Cup 2026 security ahead of one of the world’s most significant sporting events.
