Authorities from the United States and Florida carried out a raid on Thursday that resulted in the arrest of more than 100 migrants in Tallahassee, the capital of Florida.

The detainees come from Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras.

This operation is the second of its kind in less than a month in the state, causing growing concern among immigrant rights advocates.

Activists from organizations such as the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) denounced the raid through their social media channels.

In videos that went viral, migrants are seen caught off guard by the presence of agents, and one woman is visibly shaken upon seeing her husband being taken away.

The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) office in Tampa, part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reported that it led the arrest of “more than 100 illegal immigrants, some previously deported and others with criminal backgrounds.”

This operation took place at a construction site where apartment buildings were being erected near Florida State University.

The operation was carried out with the participation of the Florida Highway Patrol, in a joint effort with Governor Ron DeSantis.

The Republican governor has promoted a policy of immigration raids in collaboration with the Trump administration.

The state’s Attorney General, James Uthmeier, highlighted on social media that Florida is at the forefront of implementing federal immigration law.
“Detain. Deport. Deliver results for the American people,” Uthmeier wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).

This operation adds to the growing number of raids in the construction sector in Florida.

Conclusion

Just two weeks ago, more than 20 migrants were arrested in The Villages, a small town in the state.

Florida was also the site of a historic record in arrests last month, according to the Efe agency.

With more than 1,100 detentions in a single week, it is considered the largest ICE operation in a single state in the history of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Authorities have yet to provide additional details about the recent operation, but images shared by HSI show migrants forced to form long lines under the watch of agents.

The pressure on migrants and local communities continues to grow as raids intensify across the state.
